Why is there such a battle between next gen gaming consoles?

This has been bothering me for many months now. Everyone has a favourite console, and they have good reasons, but what bothers me is how determined they are to prove that it’s the best. What I want to know is why people become so single-minded and biased?

People that do that are somwhat insecure. In order to convince themselves they’ve made the right decision and are ‘cool’ they try to conver others into their camp. After all, if there’s a bunch of people that agree with you, it can’t be wrong, right?

But then there’s people in a different camp! Obviously, their opinion is wrong, otherwise the person’s opinion would have been wrong, and he/she didn’t make the right decison and isn’t ‘cool’. So, to make themselves feel secure, they tell the people in the other camp that they’re wrong and that their system of choice is way better.
